Record breaking qualifying session
Some say that qualification has no impact for final endurance race result, however Aurum 1006 km racers do not think that way. The qualifying battle was intense as never before and nobody dared to think that the result is not essential.
Jonas Gelzinis or Konstantins Calko? Both are young, but very experienced drivers, various record breakers and race winners. Jonas has won Palanga race for seven times, Konstantins holds best lap time from 2014 when he was driving a Radical.
This year the Latvian was faster – he did one lap in 1:08.907 min. with Lamborghini Aventador. Jonas was slightly slower, his best lap with Porsche 911 GT3 Cup was 1:08.999 min. Belgian Van Loo Johan with Porsche 911 GT3 Cup was very fast, but only third fastest in this race – 1:09.118.
0.2 seconds difference between first and third places! All these lap times were best in this year and it’s a good hint that tomorrow’s race will be intense as never.
Not everyone had a chance to compete in qualification. Chevrolet Corvette was damaged in an accident during training and was not fixed until the qualifying stage. Some replacement parts are coming, and the car will be ready for Saturday’s race.
