In Palanga’s ongoing speed festival “Aurum 1006 km powered by Hankook”, the “A.R.S.A. Group Drag” races began on Thursday but were cut short due to heavy rain. On Friday, rain again threatened to disrupt the competition, but this time, drivers managed to complete all scheduled runs.
“Rain threatened to stop the races again early in the morning, but we held a drivers’ briefing, repaired the timing equipment that was damaged by yesterday’s rain, and started earlier than planned. We managed to complete all the scheduled runs just before the rain returned,” said event organizer Aivaras Rudzis.
A total of 59 participants competed for the Lithuanian Road Police Cup over an eighth-mile (201 meters), while 62 drivers battled it out over a quarter-mile for the “A.R.S.A Cup”. All drivers were split into five different classes.
“It was a fierce competition. One major surprise almost turned dramatic – Rokas Ramanauskas won the final run due to a false start from his opponent, but he nearly made a critical mistake himself. He missed the gear shift and almost spun out on the track,” shared A. Rudzis.
The Lithuanian Road Police Cup trophies were awarded by Vytautas Grašys, Head of the Public Order Bureau at the Police Department.
