1000 km race is held in Lithuania since 2000. It is an extraordinary event that gathers various people, many teams from different corners of the world.
Through the 19 years, there were various events, some of them are now canceled and some of them are still organized every year as a tradition.
Motorbikes
In 2000-2001 motorbikes also competed in 1000 km race. After that, it was canceled for safety reasons. Palanga track is suitable for cars and not for motorbikes.
Historical technics
For several years it was possible to see historical cars race. Slow, difficult to handle cars competed to be the best. However, it is not organized anymore.
“Fast Lap”
In 2018 “Fast Lap” decided to call it quits after 10 years. The main aspect of the “Fast Lap” that teams do not compete for the positions, they try to drive the fastest lap. However, the participants of the now former tournament are participating in various other races (even the main 1006km race).
Before the main race - qualifications
Back in 2008, the race had the most teams in the history of 1006kmr ace – 76 teams. So before the main race, there were organized qualifications to know 50 best teams to drive in the main event. Qualification race is held every year before the main race.
Drift
Drift first time was organized in 2016’s race weekend. From that year it becomes a tradition to make a drift tournament. Now the track is made interesting – it has many curves and narrow turns.
Drag
The first Lithuanian drag championship was organized in 2001. One of the main street’s was closed for this event and every year drag tournament is organized in Palanga as well.
100 meters sprint
On the first official day of the race weekend. Just after the parade, the “Dynami:t Super Sprint“ takes place. It is a 100 meters drag with an aggressive start and stopping at the precise spot. Here it is important not only a good start but the end is important as well.
The run of mechanics
Another fun tradition is 1006 meters run of the mechanics. The team consists not only of drivers but a vital part of the team is also a mechanic. Thus, a separate event is organized to celebrate all the mechanics.
“TCR Baltic Trophy“
TCR cars are getting popular in the whole world and Europe in particular. Various tournament and events are held every year. One of the latter is “TCR Baltic Trophy“ - among Estonians, Latvians, and Lithuanians. One of the race is held in Palanga. For the first time it was held in 2018 and there were 7 teams participating.
108 km women challenge
108 km women challenge first was held in 2018. The event organized only for women, the variety of team names and original costumes stunned last year’s spectators.
