The 25th Aurum 1006 km powered by Hankook race, an anniversary motorsport fiesta, is underway in Palanga. After demonstrating their equipment on Vytautas Street, the 20 teams soon completed their first official kilometres on the official race track, where they started their practice runs.
Windy but mostly sunny Palanga provided good conditions for the racers to showcase their capabilities and tame their cars.
In the practice runs the teams were divided into two groups. The 11 most powerful cars were lined up for the second run of the first session.
In this session, Bio-Circle & HSG Service by Dynami:t Karolis Jovaisa and his powerful Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II were the best performers. His fastest lap time was 1 min. 06.949 sec.
Second place in the first session went to Circle K miles Plus Racing Justas Jonušis (1 min. 07.695 sec.) in the Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II, and third place went to Britain's Tim Whale of last year's champion STATETA BRO-TOKS by IGNERA (1 min. 09.082 sec.) in the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3 EVO.
In the weaker first group of 9 cars, the last Latvian team registered for the anniversary race in Palanga, Porsche Latvia Racing Team, shone. Valteris Zviedris, in a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, completed the fastest lap in 1 minute. 13.747 sec. He set the best time in his group.
The drivers will have a total of two practice sessions in Palanga. Qualifying runs will take place on Friday, after which it will be decided who will start the intriguing anniversary race on Saturday from the top positions.
