Friday practice before qualification
Aurum 1006 km race teams and drivers started their first Friday practice session in the morning. According to racers, this session has showed real performance of vehicles and drivers – they have nothing to hide and must try themselves pushing up to the limit. “We’ve sunny weather in practice sessions, but it does not matter what the weather’ll be tomorrow. If it’s hot, we’d drive like in sauna, if it’s wet – it’d be fun. Anyway, conditions are always the same for everyone” – says Dziugas Tovilavicius, Volkswagen Golf TCR driver (Skuba Racing Team). Competition is very harsh in their class – all TCR cars are very similar, all drivers are fast and only minor changes in strategy could affect class winners. However, TCR cars are not eligible to compete with fastest Lamborghinis and Porsches. Circle K MilesPlus Racing Team did the best time in Friday practice session – Julius Adomavicius did one lap in 1:11.911 min. in Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Very similar car in technical terms is driven by Speed Lover team from Belgium – their driver Johan van Loo did one lap in 1:12.183 min. Jonas Gelzinis (Circle K MilesPlus Racing Team) was third with 1:12.666 and the Lamborghini Huracan was only fourth – Arturs Batraks (Flash Racing Latvia). The qualification stage starts in 15.20.
