D. Jonušis: “Preparation for “Aurum 1006 km powered by Hankook“ is at the final stage“
Only one and a half months is left until the biggest in the Baltic States racing event – “Aurum 1006 km powered by Hankook” race. This year the race is going to place for the 21st time on July 15-18.
We can almost hear those magic words “Ladies and gentlemen start your engines” states the organizer Darius Jonušis. He reminds everyone the preparation for the race is at the final stage.
The main questions were discussed with Palanga municipality, organizers and partners. The conclusion was drawn that traditions will not be broken – the race is happening as always in the middle of July.
However, it does not mean that the race will be the same as in the previous 20 years.
Darius Jonušis explains that “Aurum 1006km race” will change. It does not matter if the quarantine will be extended or canceled, the main priority this year is to ensure everyone’s’ safety.
Masks will be mandatory for everyone even for journalists in the press center. Organizers are making sure not to run out of masks and disinfectant.
One of the main concerns is managing the spectator flows which get pretty big.
The smallest details are not clear today. However, the biggest change will be the opening parade and sprint in Vytautas street which attracts huge crowds.
It is going to be way easier to manage spectators near the racing track. It is almost 3 kilometers long and will be divided into zones where people can safely watch the race. The number of people in each zone will be according to health regulations at that moment.
To ensure maximum safety and avoid big crowds – drift spectator tribunes will not be available. Nevertheless, for the first time drift will be broadcasted live on television. Drag race has also changed. Drag participants will compete outside the track and on 1006km track will meet the fastest drivers for the final race to know the winners.
The popular “108 km women challenge“ last year attracted 81 teams. This year the challenge will be held for the 3rd time and no more than 300 women will be allowed to compete. How to make sure to compete? Fill in the application to participate.
The spectators can be not only spectators they can compete in slalom and bring back home not only good memories but prizes as well.
