On Saturday, the Aurum 1006 km powered by Hankook race, celebrating its 25th anniversary, kicked off in sunny Palanga. "Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines" - this legendary phrase came from an extraordinary man this year - Vytautas Venskūnas, the winner of the very first Aurum 1006 km race in 2000. He won the first race together with Vladas Laurinavičius and Eugenijus Tumalevičius driving a Porsche 911.
Before the national anthem of Lithuania was played by the young Aistė Gedvilaitė, and soon the athletes started to write the history of the anniversary race.
Last year's champion STATETA BRO-TOKS by IGNERA started the race from the first position, with Danish Anders Fjordbach, who broke the course record on Friday, as well as Julius Adomavičius and Nemunas Dagilis, who won the race in the past, and the title-winning Briton Tim Whale.
