Dramatic finish of Palanga street drag race

The Palanga’s Aurum 1006 km racetrack in the evening of Thursday was reserved for street racers: 56 drivers challenged themselves in Street Drag by Startline. Every race fan could take part in the event with his own car and many of them dared to try themselves. The drag race car park was full of various vehicles – Lamborghini Aventador, 1000 bhp Nissan GT-Rs and even a standard Opel Calibra and two Volvo FH trucks. One car even started burning, but the fire was successfully extinguished by track security. The qualification round finished in 3 hours and fastest racers were divided into 5 groups by their performance. The fastest group did 200 meters distance in less than 7 seconds. The final ended in an unexpected way. Two superfast GT-Rs driven by Algirdas Zaronskis and Valdas Sluta did better than Audi S2 and Audi RS7 in semifinals and stood against each other before the final. The start was great for both, but during gear change Zaronskis’ 900 kW GT-R did a wheelspin and even the experienced driver have not managed to handle the powerful car, did a spin and jumped out of the track. The winners received awards from the chief of Lithuania’s road police service Vytautas Grasys.
