On Thursday, 18th July, Vytautas Street in Palanga was once again filled with powerful cars, their drivers, team leaders and a large crowd of spectators. This beautiful tradition continued as the participants and organisers of the "Aurum 1006 km powered by Hankook race" introduced themselves to the spectators and residents of Palanga before the start of the competition. This year marks the 25th anniversary of these races, which have been held annually since 2000.
The 25th edition of the race was opened by the mayors of Palanga and Kretinga, Šarūnas Vaitkus and Antanas Kalnius, together with the main organiser, Darius Jonušis. The opening was a highlight, starting much earlier with a parade of participating teams filling the centre of Palanga. This year's race features 20 cars on the grid, with a notable presence of 8 different Porsche models, reflecting their dominance in the race's history.
This year, the use of Hankook tyres has been brought back into the race regulations for all teams. Predicting the outcome of the race is difficult as there are many strong teams competing.
